You have done the research, created your list of keywords that you have now dispersed into your article. Now, you wait. Time ticks by and you find yourself wondering when Google or any other search engine will actually rank your article higher and drive traffic to it.
More traffic to your article translates to increased traffic to your website and ultimately meaning an opportunity for growth in your business.
But, you have not noticed any changes in traffic patterns to your article or website. Frustration sets in as you are so sure that what you have done should work. The unfortunate thing is that without understanding what went wrong, you will simply repeat the same process that did not work for you in the first place.
You continue to publish your articles, using the same guidelines and in doing so are really just hoping that the second time or even the third time is a charm. However, without making changes, without figuring out why the campaigns, or the articles are failing to produce the results you are looking for (your goal) you are doomed to continue to fail.
There is no magic that will turn this around. Your business will not suddenly take off while you ignore the fact that you are not getting the traffic you set out to get.
You need to understand your goals, understand the process in order to adopt the changes necessary to succeed.
Ranking analytics have changed. You use to just have to “stuff” your articles with appropriate keywords to climb the ranking ladders. Google SEO rankings no longer use quantity as a basis for where you may rank. Your keywords have now attributed a value and are ranked according to their quality.
So what can you do?
Social Media is just that a means to being social or engaging, so start now. You already have a following, no matter how small, engage with them. Build their trust by allowing them to get to know you better. It all speaks towards credibility. It is said time and time again: get your audience to KNOW – LIKE- and TRUST you. That is the ticket to building a lasting effective online presence and subsequently a business that will also grow.
How do you engage?
Be creative and unique with your blogs while providing information that is useful for others. Provide links to other blog sites or websites that will help them on their particular mission. Create a community of sharing within your industry, with other experts and allowing others to become a part of this.
As your image grows alongside the other experts so will your credibility and business. Your community now becomes bigger than just yourself, and the search engines will recognize this.
Along with your blogs, garner as many testimonials as you can. Post them on your site. Be visible. Be transparent.
Keep current with your chosen field. Know what is trending, who is trending and where the action is. Become knowledgeable and subsequently be knowledgeable. Become the EXPERT.
Remember: people like to have fun
The word FREE works wonder with those surfing and will draw in the numbers that once again the search engines love to see. Keep your online community engaged. Encourage them to engage with your peers as well as you. Create that ever-present online Buzz.
While all this is happening, remember your goal, ultimately you are trying to get SEO ( or search engines) to increase your rank…. Move you up the proverbial ladder so to speak. This is where link building comes into play.
Quality has become the keyword king. One of the reasons to connect with other experts in your industry was simply to do just that. Linking yourself with other trusted sites, other trusted industry experts will increase your rankings on most search engines.
Why is that important? The higher you go, the more likely you will be found. You cannot build your business if you cannot be found, so ranking is important in the overall scheme of things.
Did you know that backlinks are Googles #1 ranking factor, or that they define the entire internet? Actually, you probably did, just did not realize it as you participate in the process every time you search for something, every time you click on someone’s website, comment on someone’s post. All your Likes on all the social media platforms you visit have a role in ranking someone else’s blog/website/business. Your actions are creating Google’s reaction.
That is how linking can work for you. By linking yourself with someone else you can ride on their coat tails. At least for a little bit. The goal is to build your credibility by using their credibility. The key here is to know who you are linking to and why. Do not be careless in your choice, nor in your usage. Be genuine. Learn to eventually be that expert yourself.
Do not sell yourself short. No one starts out knowing everything or for that matter anything. Be willing to learn, research and create an atmosphere of trust with your followers.
Acknowledge what your competitors do. See what they are doing and use the same tools that they do. You do not have to reinvent the wheel as they say if something is working for a fellow competitor; learn it and implement it. You may even choose to even get better at whatever it is that they do.
As you are writing your blogs, creating your videos, posting your photos remember the backlinks. Point those engaging with your posts back to you, and provide a reason to engage with them even further. Create opportunities for additional promotions, upsells even.
Remember this all started with you understanding what keywords are and how to use them effectively. Now you are simply creating quality over quantity and the search engines will love you for that. You need both.
Create useful content. Be honest and forthcoming. Be transparent. Ask the right questions, associated with the right experts/team. Above all, be available and be credible. Do not be afraid to keep learning.
Understand that being an expert is dynamic. The internet is dynamic. Social media is dynamic.
Don’t you be stagnant!
