Help me to be a good sport in this game of life.
I’m not asking for a place on the starting line up.
Just put me in anywhere you need me.
I only ask that I can give 100% of everything I do.
If all the hard drives or the hard layups come my way,
I thank you for the compliment.
I recognize that you have sent them to try me.
Help me to remember that you never send a player
more pressure than he can handle.
May I always play on the square no matter what the others do.
Help me with the good book so I’ll know the rules.
Finally, if the natural turn of events goes against me
and I am benched for sickness in my old age,
help me to accept that part of the game too.
Don’t let me complain that I was robbed or got a raw deal.
When I finish the final half I ask for not trophies or awards.
All I want to believe in my heart is that I played as well as
I could and that I didn’t let anybody down.
